TruthAI Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 21, 2026
TruthAI (“the extension”, “we”, “our”) is a Chrome browser extension that analyzes the credibility of web pages the user chooses to evaluate. This policy describes what information the extension collects, how it is used, and who it is shared with.
TruthAI only collects data when you actively invoke it by clicking the extension icon and requesting an analysis. We do not run in the background, track your browsing, or read pages you have not explicitly asked us to analyze.
When you request an analysis, the extension collects:
- Page content — the readable article text of the tab you are viewing, truncated to approximately 20 KB.
- Page URL — the URL of the active tab, used to identify the source domain being analyzed.
- Extension version — the installed version of TruthAI, for diagnostic purposes.
- Anonymous installation ID — a randomly generated UUID created the first time the extension runs, stored locally in
chrome.storage.local. This ID is not linked to your identity, your Google account, your IP address, or any personal information, and is used only to deduplicate anonymous usage metrics.
If you submit feedback through the Feedback tab, we additionally collect the text of the feedback you write and the page URL it refers to.
TruthAI does not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Your browsing history outside of pages you explicitly analyze
- Passwords, form data, authentication tokens, or cookies
- Financial, health, location, or communications data
- Keystrokes, clicks, or activity on pages you have not analyzed
Collected data is used solely to:
- Generate a credibility analysis (score, source context, claim breakdown) and return it to the extension popup.
- Look up source information for the analyzed domain.
- Record anonymous usage counts so we can understand aggregate demand and improve the service.
- Deliver any feedback you submit to the TruthAI team.
Page content and URLs submitted for analysis are sent to:
- TruthAI backend (
https://verifai-backend.vercel.app) — our own API server, which orchestrates the analysis.
- Cerebras Cloud — the LLM provider that performs the credibility analysis. Page text is transmitted to Cerebras as part of the analysis request and is subject to Cerebras’s own privacy and data-handling practices.
- NewsAPI — used only to look up public metadata about news sources; only the source domain is sent, never the full page content.
- Google Sheets — feedback submissions are appended to a private Google Sheet for the TruthAI team to review.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data with any third party. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, credit, lending, or insurance decisions.
5. Data Retention
- Anonymous installation ID — stored locally on your device until you uninstall the extension or clear extension storage. It never leaves your device except as part of usage-count telemetry.
- Analysis requests — page text sent for analysis is processed in-memory to generate a response and is not persisted in a user-identifiable database on our backend.
- Feedback submissions — retained in our private feedback sheet indefinitely unless you request deletion.
6. Data Security
All communication between the extension and our backend is sent over HTTPS. The backend is hosted on Vercel. Access to feedback sheets and backend secrets is restricted to the TruthAI maintainers.
7. Your Rights
You can at any time:
- Stop all data collection by not clicking the extension icon, or by uninstalling the extension.
- Reset your anonymous ID by clearing the extension’s local storage (Chrome → Extensions → TruthAI → Details → Clear storage) or by reinstalling.
- Request deletion of any feedback you have submitted by contacting us at the address below.
8. Children’s Privacy
TruthAI is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, by notifying users through the extension listing.
